Cochrane Collegiate Academy - St. Gabriel Partnership

About our Partnership with Cochrane Academy

In 2018, St. Gabriel Church partnered with Cochrane Collegiate Academy, an under-resourced middle and high school serving high poverty students in east Charlotte.  This partnership is part of our Caring for Charlotte initiative focused on improving economic mobility for disadvantaged families.

Opportunities to Serve

Help with Staff Appreciation and School Events

Opportunities to help host staff appreciation events, serve as a career day speaker, collect classroom supplies, and help with classroom set up are published in the bulletin and our online service opportunities calendar.  New volunteers are always welcome.  For details, contact  cochranepartnership@gmail.com.

Mentor a Student - Be a "Success Coach"

Lack of social capital* is one of the key factors keeping Charlotteans trapped in poverty.  Mentoring can make a significant difference for disadvantaged students.  Mentors/"success coaches" meet regularly with students to provide help with goal setting and decision making and build a relationship that fosters growth and self-confidence.   Our partnership with Cochrane Academy includes providing "Success Coach" mentors.   *Social capital is access to people with information, opportunities, and resources - one of the key components in rising above poverty.

Training is provided by Communities in Schools.   Once trained, success coaches meet weekly (or bi-weekly) meeting with an assigned student during an established time in the school day to provide help with goal-setting and decision making.  Learn more here.  Questions?  Contact  cochranepartnership@gmail.com.
