Meet Our Priests 

Fr. Richard Sutter
Pastor

Fr. Richard was born in Atlanta, GA.  He graduated from Belmont Abbey College in 1991 where he majored in Business Administration with a minor in Spanish.  He served in the U.S. Army before entering the seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in 2009. Before being called to join the Diocese of Charlotte, he served in the dioceses of Atlanta and Savannah.  

Fr. Gabriel Carvajal-Salazar
Parochial Vicar

Fr. Gabriel Carvajal-Salazar was born in Mexico and is the eldest son with twelve brothers and two sisters. As a young man he helped his family by working on their farm. Later Fr. Gabriel became a lay missionary in the Movement Apostles of the Word. The goal of this association is to foster among young people the idea to serve the Church atleast one year before getting married. Fr. Gabriel served several years in different dioceses of his native country of Mexico, as well dioceses in Belize and Guatemala. In 1997, he arrived in North Carolina, and in 2002, he entered the seminary. He was ordained a priest on June 5, 2010.


Meet our Deacons 
 

Deacon Mark Diener has been at St. Gabriel since his ordination in 2006. He grew up in the Detroit area and moved here in 1985. He is married to Kathy and they have four children and five grandchildren. Deacon Mark loves sailing, snow skiing, ice skating and ice fishing! 

 

Deacon Michael Goad was ordained May 30, 2014. He has been married to his beloved, Lisa, for twenty years. He grew up in Aiken, SC and moved to Charlotte in 1998. He and his wife have been members of St. Gabriel since that time. He earned his Masters in Theology in 2008 from Loyola in New Orleans. Deacon Michael enjoys jogging, golf, mountain biking and scuba diving. His favorite Bible verse is; “Behold the Almighty One has done great things for me.”
Deacon Larry O’Toole is from New York City and moved to Charlotte, with his wife Judy, in June 2010. They have three daughters and five grandchildren. Deacon Larry loves family and friends, enjoys reading good mystery novels and traveling!
Deacon Chris Vigliotta was ordained in 1983 and served many years in his home parish of St. John the Evangelist (Long Island, NY) and more recently at St. Bernard (Enfield, CT).   His ministry has included being a full-time prison chaplain and establishing a program to help inmates upon release to mainstream life. In his earlier years, he served in the Marines and worked in his family's duck farm business.  Deacon Chris and his wife Ann have been married since 1966 and recently moved to Charlotte to be close to family.
