Outreach Opportunities

Room In the Inn:  Thursdays, December 5 - March 26
Sign up to help set up beds or serve as an overnight host to 20 guests from The Urban Ministry.  Teens can sign up to set up beds and prepare for dinner.  Find details and sign up here. 

Florence Crittenton Dinner:  December 9
Spread Christmas Cheer with our friends at the Florence Crittenton Home (home for pregnant and vulnerable teens) 1300 Blythe Blvd (near CMC Main).  Two shifts to choose from:  Prepare food from 2:30 - 5:00 or serve and clean up from 5:00 - 7:30.  RSVP to Yza Lustre.  

*Giving Tree Sort Night:  December 16
Help sort our mountain of Giving Tree gifts for distribution to local charities on Monday, December 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the school cafeteria.  Sign up here.  

*Cookies/Baked Goods for Saint Vincent De Paul Baskets:  December 20
Home-made cookies and desserts are needed to fill our 486 Christmas baskets for families (4-8 people) on Dec. 20.  Bake ahead and freeze!  Find details and sign up here.  

*St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Baskets UNLOADING:  December 20
Join us at 4:00 pm in the school cafeteria to help unload food boxes.  No RSVP needed.

*St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Baskets ASSEMBLY: December 21
Join us at 8:00 am in the school cafeteria to help fill almost 500 food baskets/boxes for needy families in our area.   Everyone is invited to join in this St. Gabriel Christmas tradition.  Takes about 2 hours. No RSVP needed.

Men's Shelter Dinner:  December 27
What a wonderful way for families (children ages 12+ are welcome with an adult) to serve others by sharing the Christmas spirit with our homeless neighbors.  Shifts are available from 2:30 - 7:30 pm and include food preparation, supplies sorting, table decorating, Christmas caroling, and serving dinner. Nurses Serving Our Neighbors
Licensed and recently retired, part-time nurses needed for our new ministry advocating for those living in shelters by helping them navigate teh complex medical system.  Contact Theresa Ferguson for details and next meeting date. 

Rosary Makers  
Make rosaries for missions around the world, sick relatives, friends and parish members.  Join us on Thursdays from 10:30 - noon in the Ministry Center to work together or pick up instructions and materials to work on at home.  Contact Adrienne Bosrt by email.

Parish Life Opportunities

*Advent on the Polar Express:  December 6
Help with set up, crafts, food, games, or clean up at our annual event for little ones in the school cafeteria.  Many shifts and activities to choose from throughout the afternoon and evening.  Find details and sign up here.

Hospitality/Welcome Brunches  
Help plan, set-up, greet, serve and clean up our quarterly Welcome Brunches for new parishioners.  Meaningful opportunity to engage with members and meet others.  Contact Margie Eades for more information.

*Coffee and Donut Servers (Sundays after 7:30, 9:00, and 10:45 am Masses) Sign up in advance, choosing specific dates and Mass times.  Set up and clean up are simple, and this ministry is appropriate for everyone from singles to families with children, Scout troops, and teens who need serve hours. Sign up here to volunteer.  

*Ushers Needed:  A Great Way to Serve
Do you attend the same Mass on a regular basis?  Consider serving as an usher - both men and women are welcome.  The need is especially great on Sundays at 12:30 pm and 5:00 pm.  Teens are welcome to serve on Sundays at 5:00 pm.  For details, please contact Bob Fernan.  

Altar Society
Tidy our Altar Server robes by hanging according to size, checking for needed repairs, occasionally lanundering.  No ironing or sewing required.  Time commitment is 1-2 hours each week.  Perfect for those who frequent daily Mass or spend time in Perpetual adoration, or live close to the church.  Contact Denise Murphy.  

Church Mice  
Tidy up the Church on Monday mornings.  More hands make light work.  Contact Karen Brown at via email for details. 

Words on the Wall
Volunteers needed during Mass to run the laptop that projects the "words on the wall".  Must be comfortable with Microsoft Power Point. Find contact information here.  

On-going: Bereavement Bakers
Provide 3 to 12 dozen baked goods for funeral receptions on an as-needed basis.  To volunteer or for more information contact Denise Murphy by email

Greeters                      
Arrive 20 minutes before Mass and welcome people as they arrive in the Narthex.  The 5:00 pm Masses on Saturday and Sunday are in greatest need.  Perfect for smiling faces of all ages.  View details and sign-up online here. 

On-going:  Welcome Table   
 Stay 15 minutes after Mass and staff the Welcome Table in the Narthex (answer visitors' questions and provide registration information to newcomers.) The 5:00 pm Masses on Saturdays and Sundays are in greatest need.  View details and sign-up online here.

*On-going:  Children's Liturgy of the Word
Teach short lesson to children (ages 4 years - 2nd grade) during the Gospel and homily on Sunday at 9:00 am Mass.  Lesson ideas are provided.  Contact Denise Gruender.
