All volunteers who work with children, young people or vulnerable adults must complete "Protecting God's Children" training, authorize a background check, and complete several forms.  Find details here.

Outreach Opportunities

 August/September:  Meals for Hospice Families St. Gabriel will provide dinners on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and lunch on Saturdays at the Aldersgate Hospice House (meals for 10 to 12 people).  This is a great way for your middle school and high school kids to earn service hours.  Sign up and get details here.   Contact Meagan Quinlan with any questions or if online signup is not convenient for you, 704-564-4586.

August 4 - 19:  Christmas in August - Collection for Men's Homeless Shelter
Purchase items needed for the Men's Homeless Shelter.  Bring donations to Mass and leave under the Christmas Tree in the Narthex.  Find the list of needed items here.     Find contact information here.  

August 4-19:  Christmas in August - Collection for Cochrane Collegiate Academy
The St Gabriel’s Cochrane Collegiate Academy Partnership is sponsoring a collection of pencils, USB/thumb drives (at least 5GB) and earbuds. Thumb drives and earbuds are needed as more and more learning is digital. Bring donations to Mass and leave under the Christmas tree in the Narthex.  Questions -  please email Cochranepartnership@gmail.com. 

August 15 & 22:  Cochrane Get Ready For School
Help the staff at our partner school get ready for the first day.  Help needed with general set up, cutting, copying and laminating materials.  Email cochranepartnership@gmail.com

August 31:  Men's Homeless Shelter Dinner
Prepare and serve dinner at the Men's Shelter (N Tryon St Shelter).  Two shifts available (prepare from 3:30 - 5:30 and serve from 5:30 - 7:30).  Find contact information here.  

3rd Friday of every month:  Friendship Trays
Do you have two hours a month to deliver a meal and a smile to a home-bound neighbor?  Our Friendship Trays Ministry needs a driver for the 3rd Friday of the month.  The time commitment is 2 hours a month but the rewards will last all month long.  Find contact information here.  

4th Wednesday of every month:  Alzheimer Support/Shining Stars
Do you have a few hours to share one day a month with our elderly?  Our Shining Stars/Alzheimer Support Ministry is looking for a few volunteers to serve the 4th Wednesday of every month from 10:00 – 3:00. Assist the Program Coordinator with games, snacks and lunch. Contact Suzanne Back for details at 704-335-0253.

Refugee Resettlement Ministry
Assist families with adapting to their new city and country with English coversation, budgeting, transportation and friendship.  Contact Tammy Greyshock at tsgreyshock@charlottediocese.org

Rosary Makers
Make rosaries for missions around the world, sick relatives, friends and parish members.  Join us on Thursdays from 10:30 - noon in the Ministry Center to work together or pick up instructions and materials to work on at home.  Contact Betty or Paul Donovan at pedonovan@icloud.com or 704-817-8780

On-going:  Share your time with the homeless through Supportive Housing Communities at McCreesh Place 
Lots of opportunities for ages 12+:  tend the community garden, prepare and serve dinner, share a special skill (computer class, art, music, etc).  Learn more here.  

On-going:  Visit the Homebound
Visit our homebound parishioners once a week and share your compassion with those who are not able to get out.  Contact Krish Sheheen or 704-362-1818.

On-going:  Nepalese translator
Our Refugee Resettlement Ministry is in need of a volunteer who speaks Nepalese and can serve as a translator for our newly adopted family.  Contact Carla Sztyber if you know of someone who can help.

*On-going:  Catholic Charities Food Pantry
Help serve clients on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Sort donations and re-stock shelves on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Volunteer once a month or more often.  For details, contact Tammy Greyshock, Volunteer Coordinator, at 704-370-3283, or tsgreyshock@charlottediocese.org. *On-going:  Catholic Charities Second Harvest shoppers for Food Pantry.
Visit food bank and bring back items for the food pantry.  90 minute commitment once a month or once a week.  Lifght lifting required and a truck or SUV is helpful (but not required).  Contact Tammy Greyshock at 704-370-3283 or tsgreyshock@charlottediocese.org

Parish Life Opportunities

*Faith Formation Catechist
Can you share 2 hours a week for our children? No experience needed and training provided.  Select from Wednesday evenings or Sunday afternoon/evenings.  Openings in all grade levels.  Learn more here.  

*Coffee and Donut Servers (Sundays after 7:30, 9:00, and 10:45 am Masses) Sign up in advance, choosing specific dates and Mass times.  Set up and clean up are simple, and this ministry is appropriate for everyone from singles to families with children, Scout troops, and teens who need serve hours. Sign up here to volunteer.  

*Ushers Needed:  A Great Way to Serve
Do you attend the same Mass on a regular basis?  Consider serving as an usher - both men and women are welcome.  The need is especially great on Sundays at 12:30 pm and 5:00 pm.  Teens are welcome to serve on Sundays at 5:00 pm.  For details, please contact ministry leader here at 704-562-3802.   

Church Mice: 
Tidy up the Church on Monday mornings.  More hands make light work.  Contact Karen Brown at kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org for details. 

Words on the Wall:
Volunteers needed during Mass to run the laptop that projects the "words on the wall".  Must be comfortable with Microsoft Power Point. Find contact information here.  

On-going: Lap Robes/Prayer Shawls needed
Knitted and crotchet lap robes and prayer shawls needed for residents in nursing homes, shut-ins and hospice patients.  Contact Denise Murphy at http://dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org or 704-843-9660

On-going: Bereavement Bakers
Provide 3 to 12 dozen baked goods for funeral receptions on an as-needed basis.  To volunteer or for more information contact Denise Murphy at dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org

Prayer Ministry Volunteers
Pray for the intentions of our parishioners by receiving a postcard every month. Contact Karen Brown at 704-362-5047 x 214 or kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org 

Once a month: From the Heart Gift Shop
Staff gift shop one Sunday per month from the end of one Mass to the beginning of the next. Contact Theresa Anderson at (9:00 Sunday Masses have greatest need for help.)

*On-going:  Greeters                      
Arrive 20 minutes before Mass and welcome people as they arrive in the Narthex.  The 5:00 pm Masses on Saturday and Sunday are in greatest need.  Perfect for smiling faces of all ages.  View details and sign-up online here. 

On-going:  Welcome Table   
 Stay 15 minutes after Mass and staff the Welcome Table in the Narthex (answer visitors' questions and provide registration information to newcomers.) The 5:00 pm Masses on Saturdays and Sundays are in greatest need.  View details and sign-up online here.

*On-going:  Children's Liturgy of the Word
Teach short lesson to children (ages 4 years - 2nd grade) during the Gospel and homily on Sunday at 9:00 am Mass.  Lesson ideas are provided.  Contact Denise Gruender.
