Outreach Opportunities

*October 28:  Men's Homeless Shelter
Serve dinner to guests at the Men's Homeless Shelter.  Contact Wally Penilla at wpenilla@aol.com

*October 29-30:  Share Sunday
Bring non-perishable food items to Church.  Food will be delivered to Catholic Charities.  

October 31:  Deliver Share Sunday donations
Deliver food Catholic Charities.  An SUV or min0van type vehicle is required.  Contact Rich Carbonara at carbonarar@bellsouth.net to help.

November 12:  Habitat for Humanity
Help build homes for others.  Work available for all skill levels, no experience necessary. 
 Must be at least 16 years of age.  In addition to construction help, volunteers need to make lunches and phone calls. Contact Danny Kelly at dkelly@kellymcardle.com

*November 13:  Welcome Brunch
Greet newcomers and entertain children during the brunch after 9:00 Mass.  Contact Margie Eads at mesarge@aol.com

*November 20:  Blood Drive
 Appointments can be made from 8AM until 12PM. A sign up sheet is in the Narthex or contact Ray Hojnicki at 704-847-9043 or rayhoj@aol.com. An hour or less of your time can give someone else a Happy Thanksgiving.

*November 28, December 5, December 12: Move Angel Tree Gifts to POD
After the 8:45 Mass, move the Angel Tree Gifts from the Church to your car and drive your car to the storage Pod (behind school) and unload.  

December 2 & 3:  Under the Bridge
Adult volunteers needed to assist with collection and sorting of donated clothing for various ministries. Takes place in the ministry Center.  Contact Karen Brown at kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org

*December 12:  Sort Night for Angel Tree
Sort and organize gifts in the school cafeteria at 6:00 Click here to sign up.  

*December 13 - 20:  Deliver Angel Tree Gifts
Once the gifts are sorted, parishioner volunteers are needed to deliver them.  This is a wonderful opportunity to share the spirit of Christmas directly with families in need. Click here to sign up.

*December:  Under The Bridge Clothes Drive
Organize a clothes drive of new socks, underwear, hats/gloves and sweatshirts to be given to the homeless on Christmas morning.  Contact Karen Brown at kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org

*Thursdays (December 1 - March 30):  Room In the Inn Set Up
Volunteers needed to set up cots and tables from 3:30 - 5:00 and serve dinner (4:30 - 7:30). View details and sign-up online here.

Thursdays/Fridays (December 1 - March 30):  Room In the Inn  - Transportation
Volunteers needed to drive the shuttle vans Thursday afternoons, serve as overnight hosts Thursday, and drive the shuttle vans early Friday mornings.  View details and sign-up online here.

*On-going:  Deliver donated clothes to Crisis Assistance
St. Gabriel receives donated clothes from generous parishioners.  We are in need of one or two volunteers who can pick up the clothes and deliver to Crisis Assistance on a monthly basis.  Contact Karen Brown at  kbrown@stgabrielchurch.org.

*On-going:  Levine Dickson Hospice House - Snack Collection
Help stock the pantry with nonperishable snacks for family members and patients.  Individually wrapped granola bars, trail mix, cookies, crackers, juice boxes, pretzels, are needed (preferably in bulk). Contact Meagan Quinlan at meagsgq@gmail.com

On-going:  Lap Robes & Prayer Shawls Our parish’s Sewing Guild Ministry provides lap robes and prayer shawls to nursing home residents and shut-ins, and our supply is very low!  If you knit or crotchet and would like to share your talents through this beautiful act of mercy, please contact Denise Murphy at 704-843-9660 or  dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org for details.  

On-going:  Freedom School Volunteers:
Fundraiser Volunteer

Submits application to the tithing committee, help coordinate the tags for the Angel Tree and plan other fundraising activities.
Teen Board Coordinator - Assists with promoting, recruiting and scheduling teen volunteers.
Supply Shopper Coordinator - Shops and purchases necessary supplies.  All supplies will be reimbursed.
*Intern Appreciation Coordinator:  Coordinates appreciation bags/tokens  for college interns for 3 weeks beginning in mid-June.

St. Gabriel Church is committed to thithing a minimum of 10% of our Offertory.  The list below represents some of the organizations that have received our tithing funds or benefit as an outreach ministry .  These organizations offer volunteer opportunties.  Visit their websites to learn more. Baby Bundles: Provides newborn essentials to families in financial need.  View details here.

Crisis Assistance Ministry:  Provides assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency.  View details here.

Hospitality House of Charlotte:  Offers temporary lodging to families and patients being treated at local hospitals. View details here.

*Southminster Retirement Home:  Volunteer opportunities for teens (15+) and adults to work with residents.  Music & Memory - create personalized playlists for residents; Pretty in Pink Cart- assist staff in pampering female residents with make-up, manicures; Daily Programming - play cards, lead a game of trivia, etc.;  Work in community garden. Parish Life Volunteer Opportunities

*Coffee and Donut Volunteers (Sundays after 7:30, 9:00, and 10:45 am Masses) Volunteers sign up in advance, choosing specific dates and Mass times.  Set up and clean up are simple, and this ministry is appropriate for everyone from singles to families with children, Scout troops, and teens who need serve hours. *October 29 at 2:00 Out of the Darkness Walk
Provides support to those who have lost loved ones to suicide and provides suicide prevention awareness.  Walk with a team from St. Gabriel. Contact Nikki at 704-301-7786 or nikkicharlottewalk@gmail.com.   

1st Tuesday of the Month:  Shining Stars
Non-profit adult day respite program for people with early to moderate Alzheimer's Disease.  Help with games, social interaction and excerise. Volunteer needed to serve at Sardis Presbyterian Church. Contact Suzanne Bach at 704-335-0253.

Once a month: From the Heart Gift Shop
Volunteers needed to work one Sunday per month from the end of one Mass to the beginning of the next. Contact Theresa Anderson at tba1708@gmail.com.  (9:00 Sunday Masses have greatest need for volunteers.)

 On-going:  Words on the Wall at Mass
Volunteers are needed to administer the projector and laptop during weekend Masses.  Contact John Krasniewski at jkrasniewski@carolina.rr.com. 

*On-going:  Greeters                      
Arrive 20 minutes before Mass and welcome people as they arrive in the Narthex.  Volunteers especially needed for the 5:00 pm Masses on Saturday and Sunday.  Perfect for smiling faces of all ages.  View details and sign-up online here.

On-going:  Welcome Table Volunteers     Stay 15 minutes after Mass and staff the Welcome Table in the Narthex (answer visitors' questions and provide registration information to newcomers.) *On-going: Youth Ministry Opportunities

*On-going:  Rosary Makers              
Meets Thursdays from 10:30 - noon in Ministry Center, Room D to make rosaries for missions around the world and for sick relative, friends and parish members.  Most of our work is done at home.  If you are homebound, we will bring you instructions and pick up completed rosaries.  Questions?  Call Betty or Paul Donovan at 704-817-8780 or pedonovan@icloud.com

On-going: Altar Society
Our parish  Altar Society needs you!   This ministry launders and irons the Communion purificators for the church, maintains the holy water fonts and cares for the Adoration Chapel.  Volunteers help once every 4 to 6 weeks on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings for about an hour.  For more information, contact Denise Murphy at 704-843-9660, or dmurphy@stgabrielchurch.org .

*On-going:  Ushers 
Needed for 12:30 and 5:00 Sunday Masses.  Offer hospitality to parishoners and visitors.  5:00 Mass available for teens. Contact Bob Fernan at fernan3136@msn.com or 704-562-3802.
