The Cradle

Please note that the Pizza for Dough fundraiser for the St. Gabriel Cradle Preschool is by invitation only. Due to limited space, the event is geared to Cradle parents and reservations are an absolute necessity.

An invitation to the fundraiser appeared in the March 11 bulletin that was not intended for the entire congregation. If anyone who is not a Cradle parent wishes to donate to this fundraiser, please contact Cradle Director, Kate Stephens at 704.362.5047, ext. 280 or kstephens@stgabrielchurch.org. We are sorry if this caused anyone any inconvenience.

The St. Gabriel Cradle Preschool
A Developmental Preschool Program with Heart

Thank you for your interest in the St. Gabriel Cradle Preschool. The Cradle is a developmental playschool and pre-kindergarten program for children 2, 3, 4 and 5 years-old. The lessons and activities that we teach are centered around a creative, developmental curriculum that is based on the belief that a child’s work is play.

The Cradle Staff is coordinated by Kate Stephens, Director, who has experience and an educational background in early childhood education and special education. The Cradle teachers all have experience in working with and teaching young children. The staff plans lessons and activities that allow children to explore their world in a faith-filled, caring and nurturing environment, preparing them with the skills necessary for successful school years after they leave the Cradle. Our focus and goal is to create an early childhood program based on the developmental milestones in a young child’s life, using appropriate lessons and activities to foster his or her developmental growth.

Our Curriculum is designed to encourage growth and learning across several developmental skill areas with a school readiness component for 4 and 5 year-olds.The Catholic Church has always been a strong advocate for providing children with quality education and this program continues that tradition.

*We seek to serve young children, including those with special needs.
*We have a valuable relationship with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools to help those children who require more wide ranging services to meet their potential within the least restrictive environment.
*A very large city and church community is made to feel welcoming and intimate to those families that are able to participate in the program.
*Philosophically, it is the goal of our program to teach and nurture children in an environment that provides hand-on learning experiences through play, not by drill or rote instruction.
*The developmental curriculum that is implemented in our classes introduces concepts across all the skill areas of early childhood: gross and fine motor skills, speech and language, cognitive skills, self-help skills, and early faith formation. There is special attention given to literacy, math, and science concepts as they pertain to preschoolers.
*Children require healthy bodies in order to be successful learners. Our curriculum addresses the need to help children learn through play and movement.
*We are a faith-based community of families, and this tradition of belief is inherent to the foundation of our program
*Registration for new families interested in the next school year begins the end of January. An open house will be held in November and again in January to give interested families a firsthand look at our program. Details will be announced on the Cradle Bulletin Board as information becomes available.
